Soaring Drake

I had an image in my head, of a drake or a dragon soaring or swooping down on his prey. So I started to sketch image stuck in my head.

In the first picture, i just sketched the main body and what kind of angle i wanted my drake to come flying down.









Sketched the rest of the drakes bodyparts in order to see if I even like where its going. Im happy with the angle but not the face of the drake. And the legs needed to be resketched.









In the third picture here, i drew the sky and repainted the face of the drake, trying to make him more ferocious. I used blue values on the sky and the drake just to see if it would work together. But I want the drake to pop out much more, so the blue color on the drake has to be redone.









I tried drawing some feather at the back of the drakes skull, trying to make it more original. However I didnt like the look of feathers there.










Here I changed the color of the drake to make him pop out of the sky and take all the focus. And I chose this color to make the skin more leathery, I dont mean that blue cant be a leather color, but a normal persons mind and eyes determine while growing up that brown colors are leatherish colors. So I may not be very innovative here this time, but playing it safe is soemtimes better than overdoing it.











And here is the final art piece.I changed the color of the sky to become more menacing. Put a black frame in the top and bottom for a more widescreen concept arty look =)
